David M. deRubertis is the founder and principal attorney at the deRubertis Law Firm in Studio City, California. During his more than decade long career, David has produced numerous settlements and verdicts in excess of one million dollars. He focuses his practice on employment discrimination and wrongful termination.

A seasoned trial lawyer, David has successfully argued two landmark cases before the California Supreme Court. He has been repeatedly recognized by the Los Angeles Daily Journal and the San Francisco Daily Journal as one of the state’s top 10 plaintiff employment law attorneys. David has served on the California Employment Lawyers Association executive board, as well as the State Bar’s labor and employment law board.

Some of his significant cases include co-counseling the case of Roby v. McKesson HBOC (the largest employment verdict in the nation for 2004 and then the largest single plaintiff disability discrimination verdict in California history); lead counsel in Vargas and Hofmeister v. City of San Diego (reportedly the largest pre-trial settlement of a non-class action employment case by the city of San Diego; co-authoring the Amicus brief on behalf of the California Employment Lawyers Association in the punitive damages case of Johnson v. Ford (2005); lead appellate counsel in the pending case of Lonicki v. Sutter (the first case brought under California’s family and medical leave law to reach the California Supreme Court; and Butler v. The Vons Companies, Inc. (2006) (published decision reversing summary judgment.).

In 2009, David was invited to join The American Association for Justice, an organization that extends membership to only 100 attorneys in each state. He is a frequent lecturer at continuing education seminars and has published several professional journal articles. David is a graduate of UCLA magna cum laude and Loyola Law School, Los Angeles summa cum laude.

Although deRubertis’ intellect is evident when reading the articles he writes or listening to him speak at continuing legal education seminars, there’s no denying that he is also passionate about the work he does on behalf of his clients who have been wronged by their employers. One group that appreciates deRubertis’ advice and counsel are the members of CAALA’s List Serve. David is a regular contributor whose advice is frequently solicited by other members. Whether it’s a defense of the intellect of juries, or a personal opinion about an expert witness or defense attorney, deRubertis is always willing to offer words of encouragement, congratulations and advice.

David has been named in the Top 100: Southern California Super Lawyers from 2011 through 2014. He is a graduate of Loyola Law School Los Angeles and was admitted to practice law in California in 2000. He is a member of the American Association for Justice, member of the Board of Governors of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, and an Emeritus member of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Trial Lawyers charities.

David is the winner of the prestigious 2014 Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles Trial Lawyer of the Year award. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Kari, and two children.
