The primary purpose of the Los Angeles Trial Lawyers' Charities (LATLC) is to make a positive difference in the quality of life for people within the greater Los Angeles area, focusing on issues related to education, children, survivors of abuse, persons with disabilities, and homelessness, by providing financial assistance and volunteer service to groups in need. LATLC is a nonprofit public benefit corporation and organized exclusively for charitable purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Who We Are - Trial Lawyers for the People
LATLC was founded in 2006 by a group of seven plaintiff personal injury attorneys practicing within the greater Los Angeles Area. LATLC has grown from the original seven founders to an organization of more than 3,000 supporters. Our managing Board of Directors includes 42 attorneys who have dedicated themselves to giving back to the Los Angeles community and who volunteer their time to help our organization. LATLC's members are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of those in need throughout Southern California. We proudly draw our membership base from the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA), California Employment Lawyers Association (CELA), California Applicants Attorneys Association (CAAA) and Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) - though we are not officially affiliated with any of these organizations. How We Help - Supporting Our Community
Los Angeles Trial Lawyers' Charities has positively affected hundreds of thousands of lives through financial donations and volunteer service:
- MONETARY DONATIONS: $4,690,500 to the community in grants, gifts and goods to our 106 partner charities.
- VOLUNTEER EVENTS: 19 service projects in 2019, involving 2,009 volunteer-hours, an increase of more than 450 service hours from 2018.
- SCHOLARSHIPS: $170,000 in college scholarships awarded to 57 high school seniors based on academic achievement and need.
- YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAM: $147,000 in grants to more than 115 organized youth sports programs and public school athletic programs.
-
SPECIAL EVENTS: In addition to participating in service projects with our partner charities like painting low income housing or preparing meals for the homeless, LATLC has put together special projects of our own in 2019:
- DAY OF DIGNITY: Visitors to the LATLC booth at the CAALA convention in Las Vegas assembled 500 toiletry kits for the homeless. Then, on September 28, LATLC hosted its first "Day of Dignity" in Venice. In addition to the kits, those experiencing homelessness received clothing, towels, showers, a hot meal, and access to medical, dental and housing services.
- GREAT TRYKE GIVEAWAY: Presented 15 more customized tricycles to special needs children (and 2 adults) through SoCal Trykers. This brings our donations to 69 adaptive special needs bikes since 2017.
- ANNUAL HOLIDAY GIVEAWAY: For the fourth year, LATLC hosted a community holiday village plus food and toy giveaway. Now called "Comfort and Joy". LATLC partnered with LAPD’s Newton Division and the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church to distribute frozen hams and all the fixings for a holiday meal, as well as toys for the children, to more than 2,000 people. In addition, LATLC created a "Holiday Market" with basic necessities like diapers, paper towels, cooking oil, rice, and more for the families.
